Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Springhead Pumping Station, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Seen from the playing fields to the east, the pumping station was built in 1862-4 by Thomas Dale. Pevsner describes it as 'Italianate, of red brick with white brick and stone dressings, L-shaped south front of two storeys, five bays with pairs of round-arched windows divided by pilasters. Projecting central bay with pediment and octagonal lantern above. The 120ft (37 metre) chimney was removed in 1957. Spectacular interior. An open hall rising through two storeys contains a vast Cornish beam engine, 1876, supported on four massive Roman Doric cast-iron columns'.

For some years it housed the Yorkshire Water Museum, now closed; apparently the interior has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair and dereliction, which seems a shame.
