Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpring Bank - geograph.org.uk - 546417.jpg |
English: Spring Bank. As seen at Blundell's Corner. (Photograph taken from a pedestrian refuge).
"Spring Bank" is an interesting place name. As a mediaeval town Hull had a long deries of problems obtaining clean drinking water as the wells in the city produced saline water. The freshwater springs are located in the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds (see 23796) and the water was supplied via an open channel which ran along Spring Bank. The Cholera epidemics (see 531941) of the 19th century eventually led to the covering over of the channel. |
