CARROTS. Deeply tilled soil of a light sandy loam is the most suitable for carrots. Land that has been manured heavily the year previous is the best. Cover the seed about one-halt inch in depth, and press the soil firm- ly over the seed with the feet or a roller. For early use sow as early in spring as the ground can be worked, and for late crop from May 1st to June 1st. Sow in drills 15 inches apart and thin to t'hree or four inches apart in^row. Two and one-half pounds of seed will sow an acre, y2 oz. to 100 feet of drill. Early Half Long Scarlet. (Stump Rooted.) Excel- lent for early market or table use, of medium size, flesh bright scarlet, brittle and of fine flavor. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, yXb. 20c, lb. 60c. Guerande, or Ox-Heart. This is one of the most \a'- uable sorts, either for family use or market. In- termediate between the hah'-long and horn vari- eties, attaining a diameter of three to four inches at the neck, and of the most beautiful shape and color. It is of extra fine quality and very produc- tive. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, y4tt). 20c, lb. 60c Improved Long Orange. A deep, orange colored va- riety, equally adapted for garden or farm culture. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, y4m. 20c, lb. 50c Chantenay. One of the most perfect and uniform in shape. Always very smooth and fine in texture and easily dug; the flesh is of a deep golden orange color, very tender. For table use one of the best. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, %fb. 20c, lb. 55c. Danvers. A handsome shaped carrot of good size. Midway in form between Long Orange and Early Horn class, and grows very smooth. It yields the greatest amount of bulk with the smallest length of root of any carrot grown. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, lb. 20c, lb. 60c. Large White Belgian. Root pure white, green above ground, with small top; grows to a very large size and is easily gathered; flesh rather coarse, is raised exclusively for stock. Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, J/Z lb. 20c, lb. 50c. COLLAPDS. Georgia or Creole. This is the one so extensively used in the South. Forms a large, open head, or a mass of leaves on a tall stem. Pkt. 5c. oz. 10c, y4 lb. 30c.
