| Description |
English: Spring This horseshoe shaped stone walled structure is built into the embankment of the Union canal between Kettlestoun brig and Williamcraigs brig. It has a trough set into the recess which is little more than two feet high. This part of the canal was prone to leakage as the clay bed sat directly on bedrock and the effect of water seeping downhill between the two was known to wash a hole in the canal bed with the inevitable flooding which followed. This produced the surreal effect of pike swimming round birch trees! |
