Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpoil heap from road works - geograph.org.uk - 1307901.jpg |
English: Spoil heap from road works This area of devastation is at the beautiful Finnarts Bay. It appears to be a vast spoil heap from the road improvements which have just been completed on the A77 which passes above the bay. A close look at the photograph shows a lorry on the new road above.
I visited the bay to photograph several historical wartime relics and they all have simply disappeared under this spoil heap. There were several coastal defence buildings from World War II. These had been built to defend the mouth of Loch Ryan and all the important sites that surrounded the loch. Among other buildings here were gun emplacement buildings with the workings still in place. It was an historical site and I do hope that the authorities gave permission for this to happen. |
