Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Spit Sand Fort, construction When the fort was built, 5 inch armour plating protected the seaward side, the side most vulnerable to attack. The landward half was constructed with granite blocks, with a skin of brick inside separated by a narrow passage. The idea was that if they decided to strengthen the fort in future it would be a simple matter to feed the armour plating down this passage. I took this picture in pitch black; only the camera flash shows its construction.
