Upon Standing Wolfs arrival at camp THE LOVE-DANCE 247 with his sad burden, the women were greatlyalarmed. Poor Mi-na-ce was convulsed withsobs at the sight of her lover still lyingunconscious. When Ko-ko-hay, her mother,severely told her that it was all her fault,and that At-tick would probably die, thetender little maid felt as if her heart wouldbreak with sorrow and remorse. The boywas carefully wrapped in warm blanketsand fed some broth; and then Noo-koom,the grandmother, set about dressing hiswounded arm, and bathing it with theliquor of boiled juniper brush. Next day, while the others were away attheir work, Mi-na-ce watched over the boy,who was still delirious; and, as she satbeside his bed, moaned aloud, — ^Oh, At-tick, it is all my fault, I know;but perhaps it is not too late yet; so, ifyou will only live, I will promise to sit uponthe brush with you.
