[edit]DescriptionSpire of the church of Mammon.jpg |
English: 28 April 2013. View of "the Shard" from Waterloo Bridge.
"Spire" is the description of Renzo Piano, the architect, quoted in an article by Dominic Bradbury in The Daily Telegraph in November 2011. The 'church of Mammon' describes my own feeling about the building, seen across a row of cranes. ___________________________________ § Aerial view of where I took this photo from. § Told by Renzo Piano that the Shard "flirts with the sun", Jonathan Glancey pressed his nose to the glass; and was inspired to elevated flights of fancy about the Ancient Britons; the Romans; Giovanni Canaletto, John Ruskin; James Whistler; Joseph Conrad; and James Cagney playing a dying gangster. Starstruck Journalist's claptrap, eh? § More views about the Shard in links on my page here. § There are now hundreds (several thousand?) photos on Flickr with the Shard building somewhere in the frame. Explore some of them in the group I can see the Shard from here. § Link to Louis Berk's photo of the nearly completed Shard on 5 April 2012. § The Shard Wikipedia link. § The Shard website. |
