Description
Deutsch: Spiegelmacherhaus (3, Siegelgasse [früher Spiegelgasse] 1). Hier betrieb Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts der bürgerliche Spiegelmacher Christian Wickenhausen sein ausgedehntes Geschäft, das sich in ganz Österreich eines guten Rufs erfreute. Er war 1767-1774 Besitzer des Hauses. Ursprünglich hatte das Haus zum Areal des Nikolaiklosters gehört und das Schild „Zum Johann Baptist" geführt. Die Bezeichnung „Spiegelmacherhaus" findet sich noch heute auf einer Tafel über dem Haustor. Das Gebäude ist eines der schönsten Beispiele des josephinischen Plattenstils im ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert. Kurze Zeit hindurch war im Spiegelmacherhaus auch ein Theater untergebracht (das der Prinzipal Ferdinand Oelperl mit seiner Truppe führte). 1816 kam das Haus in den Besitz des griechischen Großhändlers Konstantin Emanuel Gyka. Zu den prominenteren Bewohnern des Hauses zählen Maximilian Ritter von Spaun, der Mitschüler und Freund Schuberts (er starb hier am 4. April 1844) und Sidon Noltze, ein Vertreter des selten gewordenen Gewerbes der Meerschaumpfeifenhersteller (er starb hier am 10. Oktober 1862).
