Das tiefste Bohrloch der Welt
In Sperenberg wurde 1867 bis 1871 die Bohrung ·Sperenberg 1· niedergebracht.
Sie war die erste Bohrung über 1000 Meter Tiefe und mit 1271,6 Metern für 15 Jahre die tiefste der Welt.
Bergrat Eduard Dunker aus Halle führte in dieser Bohrung exakte Temperaturmessungen durch, die eine Temperaturzunahme von 1 Grad Celsius auf je 33,7 Meter Tiefe ergaben.
Als geothermische Tiefenstufe wurde der ermittelte Wert ab 1900 weltweit in die geologischen Lehrbücher übernommen.
