Title |
spectacle buckle with moulded floral decoration |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy double-loop or spectacle oval buckle frame which has a flat base and a convex profile. The strap bar is narrowed and the pin has been cast into a trapezoid in section with a flattened back and ridge. There is a moulded cinquefoil knop, which resembles an acanthus leaf, on the outer edge of each loop which is opposite four incised lines on the inner edge of the loop. The sides of the frame are concave and also have a moulded cinquefoil knop at either end of the strap bar.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on p.65, No.404, which he dates to c.1550-1650. |
