Title
spectacle buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy double loop oval spectacle buckle with an angled frame with bevelled inside and outside edges and straight sides. Each of these straight sides has a notch rather than a knop, at either end of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and triangular in section, but flush with the frame and the pin is missing. The surface patina survives well and there are two transverse grooves on both of the outer edges of the frame at the widest point, which would have served as pin rests.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar oval buckle with an angled frame on page 55, No.317, which is dated from c.1500-1650.
