Title
spectacle buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy double-loop oval buckle frame in two parts with a slightly concave base and a convex profile. The strap bar is narrowed and slightly recessed from the frame, and the pin is missing. There is a moulded knop with four radiating grooves, which resembles an acanthus leaf, on the outer edge of each of the rounded loops. The sides of the frame are concave and also have a moulded knop with four fanned grooves at either end of the strap bar. The frame is 47 mm in length and 27 mm in width and 3 mm in thickness. The strap bar is 15 mm in length and 2 mm in thickness. The frame weighs 4.49g.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on p.65, No.403, which is dated from c.1550-1650.
