Title
spectacle buckle
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy double-loop spectacle buckle frame, D-shaped in plan and plano-convex in section, missing one of its two loops, but retaining the strap bar with a moulded pointed knop at each end. The pin that would have wrapped around the bar is now missing. The outer edge of the frame is more rounded and the inner edge more bevelled. The surface of the frame still retains patched of black lacquer which was used to protect the copper alloy from corrosion.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar lacquered spectacle buckle on page 54, No.303, which is dated from c.1500-1650.
