Title
spectacle buckle
Description
English: Tinned cast copper alloy spectacle or double-loop buckle frame with lozenge-shaped knops on the outer edge of each side loop and trefoil moulding at either end of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and flush with the frame and the pin that would have attached to it is now missing apart from a lump of iron oxide attached to the strap bar, which suggests that the pin was made of iron. Surface white powdering and white metal patches show that the frame was originally tinned.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar buckle on page 65, No.402, which is dated from c.1550-1650.
