Title
Spectacle Buckle
Description
English: Half of a copper alloy Post-Medieval spectacle buckle. Only one half of the buckle survives. The strap bar is complete showing that the buckle was a ‘double loop oval buckle’. The strap bar is slightly recessed on the upper surface and a small lobed knop projects from each end of the bar. The surfaces are quite corroded making it impossible to determine whether there was originally any transverse incised line decoration. Dimensions: current length 20.44mm giving an estimated original length of 38.37mm, width 22.38mm, thickness 2.47mm, weight 1.59g. For similar examples see Whitehead, R. 2003 p.54, items 301-309.
