Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpeckled Wood on nettles - geograph.org.uk - 932840.jpg |
English: Speckled Wood on nettles A beautiful example of Pararge aegeria with eye-spots (oculi) on its wings. This specimen is probably female and has recently emerged, the cycle having commenced with eggs laid in late June. The Speckled Wood is unique among British butterflies that it can over-winter as a caterpillar or a pupa, although the resulting adults are rarely perfect specimens. |
