Description
English:
Specimen of tidytips (Layia platyglossa), ca.1920
Photograph of a specimen of tidytips (Layia platyglossa), ca.1920. Six open blossoms are shown, their stalks extending down to a base at bottom. "Although tidy tips is a native California wildflower, it is more often grown in England than in the US. Plants produce a mound of cheerful, clear yellow, white-tipped daisylike flowers, 12 to 18 inches high. Flowers are 1 to 1-1/2 inches wide and bloom from spring to early summer. Leaves are small and narrow. Tidy tips makes an excellent cut flower and is perfect for rock gardens. They look great in flower boxes and in the front of a border. As soon as the ground can be prepared in the spring, sow the seeds on the surface of the soil where they are to bloom and space the plants 4 to 5 inches apart. They should germinate in 12 to 14 days and flower 14 weeks after sowing. They need good light and well-drained soil." -- unknown author. On dark background.
