e mine amounting to a little over 500tons. The mineral occurs in pockets and flats at or near thejunction of the dolomite and the hmestone. The Br ad well Mines, half a mile E. of Middleton Cross, havebeen worked since 1915 by the English Barytes and Mining Co.,Ltd. The workings are not on the main Brad well Vein, but ona cross-vein running S.E. Some of the work was opencast, butat the south end the vein was opened up by shafts to a depthof 70 ft. The vein, which is from 3 to 5 ft. wide, contains bothcrystalline barytes and caulk. The brown crystalline lumpbarytes, containing from 95 to 97 per cent, of BaS04, was soldto disinfectant manufacturers. Between 1915 and 1920 therewas an average output of 50 tons per week. In addition, about50 tons per week of small barytes, averaging 80 per cent, ofBaSO^, were mined, Crich.
