Description
English: Peyton C. March issued this order directing Dr. Esther E. Leonard to proceed home and telegraph back once she arrived. Dr. Leonard served as a contract surgeon during World War I at the U.S. Army General Hospital No. 1 in New York City and at an evacuation hospital in Vichy, France.



Transcription:

Special Orders, No. 48-0 WAR DEPARTMENT, Washington, February 27, 1919. Extract. Par 79 Contract Surg. Esther E. Leonard, United States Army, will proceed to her home, and upon arrival there report by telegraph to the Surgeon General of the Army for annulment of contract. By order of the Secretary of War: PEYTON C. MARCH, General, Chief of Staff. OFFICIAL: P. C. HARRIS, The Adjutant General. NOTE. - Only one copy of this order is furnished. Additional copies required should be made therefrom.
