English: Staff Sgt. Patrick Patterson, former chaplain's assistant to the late Chaplain (Lt. Col.) David L. Spears, speaks at Spears' memorial Jan. 12, 2012, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Chapel at Fort Bragg, N.C. Spears passed away Christmas Day from his battle with cancer. He spent nearly 20 years ministering to soldiers, families and civilians across the Army, with seven of those years spent at 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), the unit that held the memorial in his honor.
