The following evening we all attended a ball given bythe oflScers of the Second Army Corps in a newly-erectedlarge wooden pavilion. I had the honor of opening thefirst dance in the leading set with General Meade as myvis-a-vis, my partner being the blonde young lady men-tioned above, who had so innocently presented herself inher robe de nuit the previous evening.
