Title |
spatula head needle |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete Roman bone needle. What remains of this needle is the upper or head portion. It has a flat spatulate head with a rectangular eye that is 5.6mm long. The shaft is circular in section, and has a diagonal break, which due to its colour being the same as the rest of the object, presumably occurred in antiquity. The colour of the object is a creamy beige, the surface is smooth, but not glossy. It has a surviving length of 52.94mm, a maximum width across the head of 4.56mm and weighs 1.11g. Needles of this type were used throughout the Roman period. For a parallel see Crummy, 1983, figure 70, number 1982. |
