English: Spanish Sparrows are similar in appearance to House Sparrows but have distinguishing features such as a chestnut-colored crown, white cheeks, and a black patch on the throat of males during the breeding season. Females and juveniles are more subdued in coloration with brown and streaked plumage. They are adaptable birds that inhabit a variety of habitats including farmlands, grasslands, open woodlands, and urban areas. In Queen Elizabeth National Park, they may be found in scrublands and areas with scattered trees. Spanish Sparrows are omnivorous, feeding on seeds, grains, insects, and small invertebrates. They forage both on the ground and in low vegetation, using their sharp beaks to extract seeds and insects. They are social birds that often form small flocks outside the breeding season. During breeding, males establish territories and perform courtship displays to attract females.
