Description
English: In the very first days of the "Befreiungskriege" ("German Wars of Liberation", declared on 17 March 1813 against napoléonic France), August von Thümen (1757-1826), then Generalmajor of the Prussian Army, besieged Spandau Citadel as of 31 March – and coerced the French occupying troops to surrender on 27 April 1813, as reminds a commemorative plaque at the entrance of the citadelle.
A canvas by C. Röhling, "Abmarsch französischer Truppen aus Spandau 27. April 1813" (1913), depict them leaving in good order while being seen off by joyful inhabitants of Spandau.
