500px provided description: If someone tells me that this is the most photographed church in the world, I would believe it (Okay, okay, Vatican City is a church itself, so this is debatable. Also, Spain's and Mexico's churches probably draw a lot of tourists). It's almost a sacrilege being in Reykjavik and not take a shot of the Hallgr?mskirkja. It's unique and stunning. In the web must be a bazillion of pictures of it. As I have said before, I love religious architecture. They were thought and built to blow your mind away and invite you to their cult. As a representation of God's house, it can't disappoint. Hallgr?mskirkja (and Icelandic churches in general) certainly doesn't. Its symmetry, and simplicity are just stunning. Without being huge, as is usual in catholic churches to show their grandness, it's imposing and magnificent on its own. The large pipe organ at the interior is amazing as well as the view from the top floor. I think I went there every single day during my stay at Reykjavik. Early in the morning, in the afternoon and at night. Having seen tons of pictures of it, I knew I want the picture in B&W. The nature and textures of the building just scream for it. A long exposure for the clouds also was my main goal, since they in B&W architecture adds a lot to the mood. The latter was the tricky part: Never managed to find a day with enough wind+clouds combo to create movement. Just one those factors appeared, but never combined. This was as close I could get to my idea (not that original, but I want it to create it anyway). Then, honoring the symmetry, I decided to go square. What do you think about the final result? As always, your comments and critiques are very welcome! See you out there. Bonus: For inspiration and as an evidence of Iceland's versatility, two of my recent favorites Hallgr?mskirkja's photos (one of them by a really good colombian photographer): www.instagram.com/p/BQDk65JBWDP/ and www.instagram.com/p/BQ9xcJLBXMo/ [#Travel ,#Nikon ,#Winter ,#Architecture ,#Iceland ,#Outdoor ,#Long Exposure ,#City ,#Clouds ,#Church ,#Cityscape ,#Urban ,#Monochrome ,#Nightshot ,#Building ,#Iglesia ,#Religious ,#Rokinon ,#Reykjav?k ,#Hallgr?mskirkja ,#Commons ,#Cult ,#B&W ,#D750] |
