Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpa Ladder, Whitby East Pier - geograph.org.uk - 1013632.jpg |
English: Spa Ladder, Whitby East Pier The sea continuously erodes the east cliff where it joins the east pier. Over the years sections of bridge have been added to preserve access, called the Spa Ladder. Two sections can be seen in the picture. In the late 1980s the erosion became so bad that access to the Spa Ladder had to be removed. Parts of Henrietta Street can be seen crumbing into the sea.
In about 2000 the end of Henrietta Street and the Haggerlythe cliff were regraded and protected with rock works. The Spa Ladder was replaced with a solid causeway linking Henrietta Street to the East Pier. |
