Description
English: Lt. Gen. Stephen N. Whiting, Space Operations Command commander, greets Guardians, Soldiers and civilians at the Wideband Satellite Communications Operations Center (WSOC) in Landstuhl, Germany, Sep. 12, 2022. On Aug. 15, 2022, the WSOC’s mission responsibility transferred from the U.S. Army’s 53rd Signal Battalion to the U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command, under Space Delta 8’s 53rd Space Operations Squadron. The transfer marked the first time that all Department of Defense military satellite communication functions were unified under a single military service. (U.S. Space Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
