Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The rears of Southern Vectis 1103 Blackgang Chine (HW08 AOS) (right), and 1117 Ship Ledge (HW58 ATU) (left), both Scania OmniCitys, in School Green Road, Freshwater, Isle of Wight, both on route 7. They had both got to the Royal Standard bus stop at the same time so had had to double park. Route 7 is hourly in either direction, but buses should not meet here.
  • 1117 on the left was the 1455 anti-clockwise circular from Newport, via Calbourne & Yarmouth to Alum Bay, then back via Brighstone.
  • 1103 on the right was the 1525 clockwise from Newport, via Brighstone to Alum Bay, then back via Yarmouth & Calbourne.
  • 1117 was meant to pass the Royal Standard in Freshwater at 1546.
  • 1103 was meant to pass this stop at 1610.

The photograph was taken at 1616, so 1103 was six minutes late, and 1117 an impressively bad half an hour late. Route 7 is often badly delayed during the summer due to traffic and heavy loadings, made worse by the timetable being very tight as the best of times. Buses are often 15-20 minutes late, but over 30 minutes late is very bad. I pity anyone who has to use service 7 as their local bus.

Route 7 was restructured with the September 2010 timetable change, and now only runs over the top section of its previous route, and not as a circular.
