Summary
[edit]DescriptionSouthern Gates, Beauchamp Community, Newlands - geograph.org.uk - 1388349.jpg |
English: Southern Gates, Beauchamp Community, Newlands. The Beauchamp Community almshouses are built around three sides of a quadrangle with the southern side open to the sunlight and impressive gardens with this wonderful pair of iron gates.
An article written by our local historian, Pamela Hurle, recalls the gates were "said to have been designed for Cologne Cathedral, but bought by the Beauchamps with the intention of using them for their own home, Madresfield Court." The style seems very similar to those installed at Davenham, thought to be by the Bromsgrove Guild who made the gates for Buckingham Palace. 1327453 |
