English: Bargate sits astride the High Street in Southampton and was a key part of the old city walls (see shared description below).
It is EH Grade I listed and dates originally from c.1180 It is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument. At the top left can be seen a covered bell - this was the curfew and alarm bell and dates from 1605. |
