Summary

[edit]
Description

The Top of the Rock, which occupies Floors 67, 69, and 70 at 30 Rockefeller Center, is an observation deck that had been closed 1987-2005 but has now reopened.

It is one of the best places to take in the city views, partly because I can see the Empire State Building, something I cannot do from the Empire State Building itself. At night, the Empire State Building's lighting colors may vary depending on the occasion (red/white/blue for Fourth of July, orange for Halloween, red/white/green for Christmas); all blue, as seen here, is typical, but was also used when Frank Sinatra, or "Old Blue Eyes," passed away in 1998.

On the right pretty close by is one of the newest additions to the Manhattan skyline, the Bank of America Tower (One Bryant Park), completed in 2009; the blur at the base of the spire is the steam condensate after the timed exposure.

In the distance, One World Trade Center (under construction) makes for a nice replacement in the void where the Twin Towers once stood.

I love this view, and this city. So glad to be back after a long absence.
