Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Flag of the South Slavs is a flag used to symbolise the people of the South Slavic ethnic group, and the combination of countries of which they form the majority of the population, namely the Eastern and Southeastern European countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.

The red and white stripe each take up a third of the flag and the blue and green take up a sixth each. It consists of four horizontal bands of which the both the top and bottom bands are twice the size of the middle bands. Fromc top to bottom they are colored red, blue, green and white. The flag's color proportions are 2:1:1:2 and the ratio of the height of the flag to its width is fixed at 2:3. The red color, blue color and white color are the Pan-Slavic colours but besides this they represent the colours of the flag of Yugoslavia which all south Slavic nations (with the exception of Bulgaria) were a part of. The green color represents Bulgaria and to a lesser extend the Eastern South Slavic language family.

The basic order of the colours of the bands (excluding the green band entirely) are mirrored from the ones on the Russian and Slovakian flags. This symbolises their geographic location, as the south Slavic countries being south of the east and west Slavic (sometimes called north Slavic) countries.

The flag is sometimes used to promote more unity between the South Slavic countries, from simply more cooperation between their countries to standardizing the Bulgarian and Macedonian languages to one standardized language or even a total unification of the south Slavic countries into one nation.
