Transcribed from back of photo: “SOUTH SCHOOL'S “FIRST” BASEBALL TEAM What can be described as the South School's first baseball team was undoubtedly the group photographed above, organized among the students of the school in the spring of 1890. Copy of the photograph was furnished by Floyd Croft, who can be described as the team manager and scorer. With the erection of the Rainier, the T.T. Minor, the Pontius and the Mercer Schools in 1890, interschool competition was inaugurated in 1891.”
