In his religious faith Judge Pressley was a Baptist, and waswarmly attached to the First Baptist church of this city, wherehe used often to lecture. Simplicity, modesty and purity werehis chief characteristics, and when the summons came, in theconsciousness of a well-spent, noble life, and firm in the faith ofhis fathers, he entered gladly the life eternal, leaving Carolinato mourn the loss of his genius and worth. The funeral services were held at Summerville, the KeverendLucius Cuthbert officiating. After the services the remains weretaken to the depot of the South Carolina and Georgia Eailroadand conveyed on a special to Magnolia Crossing, and from thereto Magnolia Cemetery, the place of interment. Benjamin Chaplin Pressley was born February 14, 1815, anddied September 5, 1896. He was the son of William Pressleyand Eliza Elenor Adams. He was twice married, his first wifebeing Louisa Wheeler, and his second wife Mary Burkmeyer.

He first settled in Yorkville, where he learned thetailors trade with his uncle, William Dedman, who was alsofrom Virginia, and afterwards removed to North Carolina, myfather remaining in South Carolina. On the 9th day of July,1822, Dabney Hudson married Narcissa Cook, the eldest daugh-ter of Benjamin Cook and Sarah, his wife, both natives of York.Mother was born October 26, 1800.
