| Description |
South African Locomotive! This huge 4-8-4 South African Railways Locomotive, No.3405, "City of Bloemfontein", was built by The North British Locomotive Works, Glasgow in 1958. Due to the gauge, weight & height of the locomotive it could never run on the British system, however it could run on a dedicated private line but the costs of doing it up and building the infrastructure would be prohibitive, so it is confined to a short length of track at Quainton Station on the Buckinghamshire Steam Railway, as an example of British Heavy Engineering. |
