The map and list of varie-ties was first printed in Kansas Farmer in the springof 1913. SORGHUM AREAS DEFINED 141 Besides these are many unnamed varieties of cornwhich give good comparative results for the sections inwhich they have for years been grown. It will be many years, probably, before any consider-able number of Kansas farmers will entirely discontinuecorn growing. As evidenced by the records of the past,the western farmer is determined to grow corn. Heloves the sound of the thump of the ear on the bumpingboard. But, if he must grow corn, he can well afford toplant only those varieties which have proven the bestadapted to his locality, and should make every effort tosecure such seed. Oklahoma Sorghum Areas. Reference to the precip-itation map of Oklahoma will reveal why the farmers ofthat state have established kafir and milo as the mostsuccessful grain and feed crops for the several sections.It will prove instructive to compare the Oklahoma mapswith the corresponding maps for Kansas.
