Summary

[edit]
Description FHWA, Highways for LIFE: the innovative components of this bridge that have not previously been used in Vermont include flush mounted rail and bare concrete deck. These innovations along with solid stainless steel reinforcement in the deck, integral abutments and weathering steel result in a design that is simplified to rail, deck, beam and abutments. The simple design and the high performing materials reduce the timeframe for construction and will result in fewer maintenance activities over the life of the structure. The result would be a maintenance friendly bridge, with no membrane and pavement that can rut and pothole; no joints that can fall into disrepair and leak; no scuppers that can clog; no curbs that will retain salt-laden runoff and accelerate deck deterioration; no bearings that can corrode and freeze; and no beam paint system that can fail.
