Soldiers looking at Japanese submarine |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Soldiers looking inside a two-man Japanese submarine brought to Camp Atterbury, Indiana during World War II (No. 158 M). The 81-foot sub toured the United States starting from the Pacific coast, to inspire the war effort and boost sales of war bonds and stamps. The vessel was mounted on a huge truck and trailer and had its torpedoes replaced with replicas by the navy (from "Camp Crier" newspaper, August 13, 1943). |
