[edit]DescriptionSoil Profile Showing 1912 ash layer and ash C, Archeological Compliance Excavation Near Brooks Camp Visitor Center (13542983894).jpg |
Ash fall was relatively light near the Brooks River in 1912 where only about 6-8 inches of ash fell. In contrast, parts of Katmai's Pacific coast received more than 3 feet of ash. The thick gray layer near the top of the photo is 1912 ash. The brown layer toward the bottom of the profile is another ash layer from another volcano. NPS photo by M. Fitz. |
