On January 14, 2018, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image as the snowfall crept across the United States on its way to coat the East Coast.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A strong winter storm swept across the United States from January 14 -17, 2018, ultimately bringing a coating of white from the West to the East Coast and stretching far to southern areas that rarely see snowflakes. According to The Weather Channel, snow and sleet covered parts of all 50 states by January 17. The most southerly-reaching snow reached Destin and Panama City, Florida – the third snow event in Florida in an unusual Southern winter. On January 14, 2018, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image as the snowfall crept across the United States on its way to coat the East Coast. At the time of the image, a wide swath of white coats much of the country, including New England in the northeastern-most section of the United States, and all visible parts of Canada. The Appalachian Mountains form a temporary barrier to the line of white. Heavy cloud lies off the eastern shoreline from Maine to Florida.
