Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The winter sports industry is vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and Europe is beginning to feel its first impacts. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 1 September, shows La Sambuy, a ski resort in the French Alps. For the first time in seventy years, the resort will not reopen for the 2024 winter season due to the impact of global warming, which has reduced snowfall and, as a result, made it unprofitable to maintain the ski lifts and resort operations. Copernicus Open Data allows for a better understanding of environmental phenomena linked to climate change and its consequences.
