The stream of the river rises in three branches. The South Fork rises near Snoqualmie pass; the Middle Fork near Summit Lake at the crest of the Cascades; the North Fork in Lake Kanim -- all in northeast King County. The branches merge two miles east of Snoqualmie Falls. The river flows north and northwest in a winding pattern into Snohomish County where it joins the Skykomish River four miles southwest of Monroe and forms the Snohomish River.

Mount Si is a peak with an elevation of 4,190 feet two and a half miles northeast of North Bend in east central King County. The peak was named for Josiah Merritt, who settled near the mountain slope in 1862, and whose affectionate nickname was Uncle Si. The name appears as Si Mountain on some maps.
