Title
English: Snaklum Charlie and family, ca. 1915
Description
English:

The Snohomish people lived along Puget Sound and the Snohomish River. After giving up their traditional lands in the Treaty of Point Elliott (1855), some Snohomish moved with Snoqualmie and Skykomish people to the Tulalip Reservation, in Snohomish territory. This photo shows a Snohomish family sitting on a Puget Sound beach. The man, Snaklum Charlie, and the boy are whittling. One of the women is knitting a sock, which was one way that Snohomish women earned extra money. The photo was probably taken between 1910 and 1920.

Original photograph: ca. 1915. Copied after 1975 by the Museum of History and Industry.
