[edit]DescriptionSmithville Lake Cleanup Day (8020893486).jpg |
SMITHVILLE, Mo.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake hosted its 23rd Annual Federal Lands Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15, 2012. The purpose for Federal Lands Cleanup Day is to "showcase the Nation's public lands and the importance of protecting the natural resources through responsible use and volunteerism." This year's event brought in 142 volunteers from the Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups and active community members. Four hours of active collecting led to filling approximately 140 bags of trash totaling 3,100 pounds. The volunteers received water, gloves and t-shirts, provided by Toyota. Lunch was donated by Clay County Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites. Frisbees and Lake Cleanup patches were also awarded to the volunteers by the Park Rangers. Photo by Trisha C. Dorsey. |
