Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The British Army lost much of its equipment at Dunkirk. Few weapons remained for the Home Guard. New ones needed to be quick and cheap. The 3-inch (7.62 cm) Smith Gun was invented in 1940. It moved on large wheels. To fire, the gun was turned on its side. The bottom wheel allowed the gun to turn; the top provided overhead cover. It could fire an 8-pound (3.63 kg) anti-personnel shell or a 6-pound (2.72 kg) anti-tank shell.
