| Description |
English: Sluice gates at the "Carry" on the Mourne. At this very spot 45 years ago almost to the day and with snow on the ground myself and a pal plunged into the water and survived. It had been the result of some juvenile drunken banter with a local reporter about how my friend and I were going for a New Year's Day swim to "see in" 1965. It would have taken more courage to back out; that's the sort of village it was. On reflection it was worth the effort as I still see the look of terror on my pal's face when I declared OUR intention to the reporter in the warmth of the snug in the bar on the previous night! |
