Description
English: A "whale tooth" in "the Whale Hall" (in Norwegian: Hvalhallen) of the Slottsfjellsmuseet, a local history museum in Tønsberg, Norway.
The exhibition in the hall (build 1939) shows old skeletons of whales, specimens of whale fetuses, etc. connected to the city's whaling history. The skeletons are from a fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) from 1895, a record 27-metre-long blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) from Iceland 1901, a minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), a sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) from 1896, a bottlenose whale (Hyperoodon ampullatus), a killer whale (Orcinus orca), a right whale (Eubalaena glacialis), etc. Photo taken on January 21st, 2020.


Norsk bokmål: En «hvaltann» utstilt i «Hvalhallen» i Slottsfjellsmuseet i Tønsberg. Hallen blei bygd i 1939 og viser hvalskjeletter, hvalfostre og annet knytta til byens hvalfangsthistorie på 1800- og 1900-tallet. Skjelettene er fra en finnhval (Balaenoptera physalus) fra 1895, en rekordlang blåhval (Balaenoptera musculus) på 27 meter frakta fra Island i 1901, en vågehval (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), en spermhval (spermasetthval, kaskelott, Physeter macrocephalus) fra 1896, en nebbhval (Hyperoodon ampullatus), en spekkhogger (Orcinus orca) og en nordkaper (Eubalaena glacialis).
