DescriptionSloop Jubilee-5.jpg |
English: Charles Jackson Paine's sloop Jubilee (designed by his son John Bryant Paine, and built in 1893 at the George Lawley & Son shipyard, Massachusetts) was a candidate for the 1893 America's Cup defence. She featured a fin-bulb keel and two centerboards: one forward of the keel, after the cutwater, and another set inside the finkeel. She is pictured here on the day of the Ogden Goelet Cup in Newport, RI, a drifting match which ended in fog and a comical quiproquo with the flagship committee over which of the four cup contenders had actually won. The Jubilee finished third.
