Summary

[edit]
Description

Argillite in banded iron formation in the Precambrian of Ontario, Canada.

The rock seen here is argillite (= lightly metamorphosed mudrock/siliciclastic mudstone). A magnet sticks to it - it has a minor component of magnetite. This is an interbed in a magnetite-quartz banded iron formation.

The white gash is a quartz vein.
